Accessibility Guide
We want to make Villa Marina a pleasurable place for as many people as possible to stay, regardless of their individual needs. The following should help you confidently book Villa Marina, but we welcome any questions.
We are more able to help if we know in advance of booking/arrival of anything you may need. If Villa Marina is unsuitable for you, this also gives us the opportunity to suggest somewhere more suitable.
Villa Marina is unsuitable for those fully dependent on a wheelchair as the building can only be accessed via steps; we have no lift or ramp.
We are happy to accept service dogs by prior arrangement.
Our Website
On a laptop or desktop computer, our website text can be increased in size by pressing "Ctrl" and "+" together.
To reduce the size, press "Ctrl" and "-". ("Cmd" button on a Mac computer).
Our website can be navigated using the mouse pointer or the "tab" function to navigate through our menus.
Moving around Torbay
The walk into town is fairly flat. Once exploring the rest of Torbay, there are many larger hills. It is approximately a 15-minute walk to the seafront and a 25-minute walk to the very centre of Torquay. En route, there are benches and many cafes, restaurants, and bars.
Torre Train Station is around a 5-minute walk, and Torquay Station is around a 15-minute walk from Villa Marina.
Public transport is very good in the area, and it's easy to get around using a taxi, bus, ferry, land train, or regular train.
Our nearest bus stop is about a 10-minute walk up a slight hill. The land train (runs seasonally) can be caught at Torre Abbey, a 12-minute walk from Villa Marina. It is possible to hire an electric mobility scooter locally and deliver it to us before your arrival. We can store this in our garage for you. Please let us know if you plan to hire one. easyscoot.org.uk
Food at Villa Marina
Please let us know when you book if you have any special or dietary requirements. We would be more able to help if we knew in advance. As standard, we provide gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options. Food from our kitchen may contain or be prepared in the vicinity of allergens.
Access to Villa Marina
Our car park is laid with tarmac overlaid with loose grit and is located at the bottom of our garden. Access to the house is through the garden, and the walk through the garden to the house is around 20 meters.
If we have not noticed your arrival, please feel free to leave your luggage in the car. We will come out to help you with it if needed. Help is always offered to carry luggage to your room. When you check out, we'll help you back to the car with your luggage.
Entering the house from the car park is along a concrete path through the garden, up three steps of varying height to the front door and then two steps into the front door:

The corridor is laid with flat tiling. All other corridors, stairs, reception rooms and bedrooms have short pile carpets.
Check-in
Seating is available for check-in. Check-in is usually carried out on an iPad, where text can be increased in size as required.
A pen and paper are available at reception should you or we need to write anything down if guests have hearing difficulties. A pen and paper are provided in every bedroom.
All corridors and stairs have natural and artificial light. Lighting in the communal areas is dimmed from 12 am until sunrise but can be switched on fully using the light switches.
Our ground-floor rooms
Brunel - Compact Double.
Brunel is our compact ground-floor room. It has a double bed and an approximate floor space around it of between 40cm and 80cm.
The room has a separate en-suite toilet and shower room.
The toilet room is approximately 1m x 1m in size. The turning space in front of the loo is around 70cm.
The shower room has a shower tray size of 80cm by 70cm. The shower room floor space is approximately 1m x 80cm. There is a step into the shower of 24cm. A shower step can be provided.
There are no rails in the toilet or shower room. We can provide a grab rail with a suction attachment.
Singer – Comfort King Size
Singer is our larger ground-floor room. It has a king-size bed and an approximate floor space of between 1m and 80cm around it.
Sockets and light switches are easily accessible.
The room has a combined en-suite toilet and shower room.
The shower room has a shower tray size of 75cm by 70cm. The shower room floor space is approximately 1.5m x 90cm. There is a step into the shower of 24cm. A shower step can be provided.
There are no rails in the toilet or shower room, though we can provide a grab rail with a suction attachment.
